Everyone has a favorite subject, some people collect lots of different things. People either love or hate antiques, 40's and 50's kitsch, bobbleheads, the list could go on and on. The one thing about art is you immediately know whether you love it or hate it. Art is emotional, passionate, temperamental, moving, it makes you think. Love it?, Hate it? If it doesn't illicit a quick response it's not the art for you! Art is never luke warm.
Three easy steps
1. The Search:
Searching for a piece of art can be fun, exciting and in the end rewarding. Think about the type of art that you would like to begin collecting such as...landscapes, abstract, expressionism, a certain artist, a certain style of painting etc.
When you begin to collect start with good quality art work. That doesn't mean it has to be extremely expensive to be good. There are many works of art on the market today that are very reasonably priced.
One of the first things that you'll want to think about when you begin to collect is: What is my goal? Do I
want to collect famous names? Do I want to collect dogs playing poker? Do I want to collect only island scenes? Do I want to collect art that means something to me? Its all up to you, it's like the kid in the candy store-but picking is always so hard.
The good thing about art is you can always find a buyer when you tire of it or your taste changes. Many people dont realize that they seldom will like the same art in their 20's as they do in their 30's, 40's and so on.
2. The Purchase:
Things that will motivate you to purchase a piece of art will begin to happen and you really wont even be aware of it. You see a painting and immediately feel that the artist painted it with you in mind... It speaks to you, the colors, the subject matter, the painting style. It can be overwhelming, the desire to have a certain painting or art piece. This is the experience that drives the purchase of a piece of art that you can live with and enjoy.
3. The Installation:
After you've brought your newly acquired art home, you must select the perfect presentation spot for it. Sure... you could hang it "just any old where" but the key is to hang or place your art work in a spot that recreates the feeling you got when you first encountered it.
