Bio/Artist Statement

Gail Dragon was born and raised in Chicago. Surrounded by the sights, sounds and diversity of the Windy City, she grew to love and appreciate art.

When Gail reached the age of 10, her father presented her with a treasured set of oil paints that she had secretly longed for. As she poured over the oil paints her father issued Gail a challenge for her to create. That simple gift gave her the opportunity and encouragement to become an artist. Creating art for Gail is a way of life, that she loves to share with others. Whether it is taking on subjects that can be as mundane as objects, people and places. Then she enhances them with her own distinctive style while adding a bit of whimsy along the way.

Gail has always been interested in Pablo Picasso, especially in his Blue Period. She loves the simplicity and the way each stroke captures form seemingly effortlessly.

Gail has been working in pastels for the last few years and has really enjoyed the challenge. Pastels are a combination of blending and layering to create your painting. You mix your colors right on the surface, you can be bold or soft with them. This is exactly what Gail loves about this medium.
